iMlango launches new Microloans initiative

This month we are pleased to announce that iMlango has launched a new Microloans initiative which provides access to funds for families in selected iMlango communities. The unique initiative provides recipients with funds to help them grow their business, and aims to focus the recipient family on the importance of saving for their children’s education. The microloan service is directly connected to their child’s education, and it is intended that the loan – coupled with sensitisation activities on the importance of education and its centrality to loan provision – helps develop recipients’ positive attitudes and behaviours towards investment in education.

Leadership Training and the Training of Champions

Between the 5th and 7th of March, the iMlango team held Leadership Training sessions in four counties (Usain Gishu, Makueni, Kajiado and Kilifi).

This was a one day training course, attended by officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Teachers Services Commission (TSC). The purpose of the course was to ensure that all participants are familiar with the iMlango platform, its content, and are aware of the support that the field team offers, in order to assist in the successful delivery of the programme. Emphasis at the training sessions were placed on the importance of ICT for key subjects: Literacy, Maths and English.

The training participants were also shown how to use the data obtained from the schools, so they can monitor the outcomes, and this proved very popular as they were interested to know portal and content usage, and to see attendance data.

A big thank you to all of you that attended.

Training of Champions

The re-introduction of the Champions Teacher Training will take place next month. This will see 205 Headteachers and 410 Teacher Champions complete a three-day training session, based on portal content and ICT skills.

The Champions will then return to their schools and share their knowledge.

Until next time,

The iMlango Team
